What Is OSLA?
OSLA (Oklahoma Student Loan Authority) is a nonprofit state agency that contracts with the Department of Education to service federal student loans. Despite its name, OSLA services borrowers nationwide, not just in Oklahoma. It is one of the smaller federal loan servicers.
OSLA services Direct Loans assigned to it by the Department of Education.

What 2026 Policy Changes Mean for OSLA Borrowers
If you are enrolled in SAVE: Your payments are paused due to the court injunction. This administrative forbearance does not count toward IDR forgiveness or PSLF. Log in to osla.org to confirm your current plan.
If you want to enroll in IBR: OSLA can process your IDR application. You can also apply at studentaid.gov. IBR is fully available and open to new enrollees.
If you are pursuing PSLF: PSLF is processed by MOHELA. OSLA can confirm your loan types are Direct Loans (a PSLF requirement), but you'll need to work with MOHELA for your qualifying payment count.
Key Actions for OSLA Borrowers
- Log in at osla.org to check your repayment plan and loan status.
- Verify your loan types: Only Direct Loans qualify for PSLF and the newer IDR plans. If you have FFEL loans, you'll need to consolidate to access these options.
- If on SAVE: Consider switching to IBR so your payments begin counting toward your forgiveness timeline.
- Recertify your income annually — OSLA will send reminders, but don't miss the recertification date or your payment may increase.
OSLA vs. Larger Servicers
OSLA is smaller than servicers like MOHELA or Nelnet, which sometimes means shorter phone wait times and more personalized service. However, they have the same capabilities to process IDR applications, deferments, and forbearances.
Common OSLA Problems and Solutions
"I'm not sure if I'm with OSLA." Confirm your servicer at studentaid.gov → log in → "My Aid" → "View Loan Servicer Contact."
"I need to recertify my income but can't reach OSLA." You can also submit your IDR recertification directly through studentaid.gov, which will route to OSLA automatically.
"I received notice that my loans are being transferred." The Department of Education periodically reassigns loans between servicers. If you receive a transfer notice, update your autopay and contact information with your new servicer promptly.
