What Is Granite State?
Granite State Management & Resources (GSMR) is a New Hampshire-based nonprofit that contracts with the Department of Education to service federal student loans. Like OSLA, Granite State services borrowers nationwide despite its regional name. It is one of the smaller federal servicers.
Granite State services Direct Loans assigned to it by the Department of Education.

What 2026 Policy Changes Mean for Granite State Borrowers
If you are enrolled in SAVE: Your account is in administrative forbearance due to the court injunction. Payments are paused and do not count toward IDR forgiveness or PSLF. Log in to granite.org to confirm your current repayment status.
If you want to switch to IBR: Submit an IDR plan change through your Granite State account or at studentaid.gov. IBR is open to new enrollees and is the recommended alternative for most SAVE borrowers.
If you are pursuing PSLF: PSLF processing is handled by MOHELA. Granite State can confirm your loan types are Direct Loans (required for PSLF), but you'll submit Employer Certification Forms at studentaid.gov and check your payment count through MOHELA.
Key Actions for Granite State Borrowers
- Log in at granite.org to verify your current repayment plan, balance, and next payment date.
- If on SAVE: Decide whether to switch to IBR to resume accruing forgiveness-eligible payments.
- Enroll in autopay for a 0.25% interest rate reduction.
- Recertify your income annually — missing your recertification date can cause your payment to jump to the standard 10-year amount.
Common Granite State Problems and Solutions
"I can't find information about Granite State online." Granite State is smaller than other servicers and has lower brand awareness. Verify your servicer at studentaid.gov — if Granite State is listed, granite.org is the correct portal.
"I received a transfer notice." The Department of Education periodically reassigns loans. If you receive a transfer notice from Granite State, create an account with your new servicer immediately and update your autopay and contact information.
"My interest seems higher than expected." Review your loan details on granite.org. If you have unsubsidized loans and were in a period of forbearance or deferment, interest may have accrued and capitalized (been added to your principal balance). Contact Granite State to understand your balance history.
